I spent years working in film, building worlds for I spent years working in film, building worlds for people to step into and believe in completely.

Then I started designing homes and I realised something: a home works the same way, except this one isn’t a set. It’s yours and it should hold you.

That’s what I care about most... not a look but a genuine connection. Walking into a room and feeling like it’s actually you.

Colour is a big part of that. Most people are more afraid of it than they’d admit and they shouldn’t be. Used with intention, it stops being decoration and becomes the foundation everything else sits on.

The whole process, from that first conversation through to the final room, is built around the same idea. Not a show home, but one that’s settled, because it was made with you, not just for you.

If that’s the kind of home you’re after, the full story and how we get there, is on the website and I’d love to hear from you.

This film was beautifully filmed and edited by Emma @oojamaflick.
The stills throughout were expertly photographed by @annastathakiphoto and @fwalkerarnottphotography
Thank you to the wonderful @sarahpajwani for allowing us to use your home too- so appreciated!
Why this kitchen works so well in an open-plan spa Why this kitchen works so well in an open-plan space isn’t really about the kitchen.

It’s because everything around it is so clearly defined.

Open-plan living asks a lot of one room.
It has to cook, host, tidy itself in minutes and still feel like somewhere you’d want to spend an evening. Most kitchens end up compromising on one of those things to manage the others.

This one doesn’t, because it isn’t doing the job alone.

Behind three doors sit three distinct spaces, each with one job: a utility for the washing and the everyday mess that never quite finishes; a boot room for the boots and coats and dog leads that come with actually living somewhere; a pantry for the stock and supplies a kitchen would otherwise be cluttered with.

That’s what lets the kitchen stay sociable and part of the open-plan space. Three distinct jobs, done somewhere else and most importantly, with a door between them.

None of this was decided at the colour or light fitting stage. It was decided before any of that - when the only question was how this family wanted to live and what that living would actually feel like day to day.

That’s the thinking behind Before You Build. Looking at how you live before a single finish is chosen.

We consider ourselves very lucky to work so closel We consider ourselves very lucky to work so closely with our clients. We get to know them pretty well through the process and that’s how we get to create such personalised spaces for them. Spaces they’ll experience long after we’ve gone!

“Kate understands how design makes a person feel in a space and leads with the heart when it comes to design. She’s not afraid of colour and uses it to create emotion in a space that you never want to leave.

Thank you Kate for everything you did for us on this project. We came to you asking for help on the layout of our lounge and ended up with a whole new home, one that we will love raising our family in. You put us at ease right from the start, listened carefully to what we wanted at each decision and made the whole journey simple and stress free. We couldn’t have started let alone completed this without you.”
Climbing the walls… we built a bespoke Minecraft i Climbing the walls… we built a bespoke Minecraft inspired headboard, with added climbing holds. *Obviously* jumping on the bed is completely frowned upon… but if you’re 10 and you’ve got your mates over then what’s a boy to do?
